Topic: Parenting ADHD, Autism and Anxiety

Guest Speaker: Melinda Shepherdson

Melinda has many years of experience in a variety of Occupational Therapy roles, both in WA and internationally. She graduated with Distinction and was a member of the Vice Chancellor’s List from Curtin University of Technology with a Bachelor of Science (Occupational Therapy) in 1998.

Melinda has worked with many clients with neurological conditions, including progressive diagnoses. She enjoys working with children in the exciting area of Adventure Bush Therapy, including those with ADHD, autism and anxiety. Recently, she has collaborated with schools to deliver talks on neurodiversity to both staff and children.

PARENTING AND THE CARING ROLE:

Being a parent of a teenager or young adult can be tough, knowing how to respond when there are mental health issues can be even tougher.

EVERYONE’S EXPERIENCE IS UNIQUE
Often parents in the caring role are impacted in several areas.

Topics include:

  • Understanding Eating Disorders
  • Alcohol and other Drugs
  • Communications Skills
  • Hearing Voices
  • Self care and wellbeing

Where: The Online Parent Support Group via zoom provides a service in a safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment.

Cost: This service is at no cost.

When: New time 5.30pm, first Thursday of the month

INTRODUCING GRACE
The online parenting group will be facilitated by family peer facilitator, Grace. Grace brings a wealth of experience having worked with parents and has a lived experience of caring for her daughter who is aged in her early 20s with complex mental health issues.
