Mental Health First Aid for the Suicidal Person Workshop in Wagin

On 7 September as part Suicide Prevention Week we held a Mental Health First Aid for the Suicidal Person workshop in Wagin in partnership with Wagin Community Resource Centre.

Community members from Wagin and outlying country towns attended, with Jo Drayton (the Wheatbelt Suicide Prevention Coordinator – right) officially opening the workshop.

The training highlighted the growing need and continued importance for workshops and mental health programs such as these to be held IN regional areas of WA:

“This course was very informative and empowering for me for example to be able to pick up signs and the language to use makes me feel a lot more confident in dealing with a suicidal person.”

“I came away with more knowledge and I’m more confident that if I’m faced with the situation i could calmly help. The information I learnt through our Instructor Joyce is great.”

We look forward to working with regional communities across Western Australia over the coming three years to deliver targeted training according to specific needs.

Thank you to CBH Group, who enabled us to deliver this training via a donation from their Harvest Mass Management Scheme (HMMS). You can read more about the HMMS here.
